Leona Lewis has revealed how her mixed-race looks made her a target for bullying classmates at school. ‘I was the only one at stage school who wasn’t white’, she explains. ‘Some kids would come up to me and say “Oh, you’re mixed-race”, making it a big deal when it wasn’t. ‘I later went to a school where the majority of the kids were black and because I used to wear my hair out, I’d get teased for not wearing it in braids and for being different there too.’
Leona, 22, who shot to fame after winning last year’s X Factor, explains that it was ultimately the support of her family that got her through the experience. ‘I’d go crying home to Mum and she would say to me, “You’re a beautiful girl and you’re a part of me and a part of your dad”,’ Leona tells the Daily Mail. ‘You don’t have to do anything but carry yourself with pride’.’ Source: Now Magazine |

completely understand, being mixed-race myself! it is mostly jealously though cos look at her! doesn’t help when ignorant people make comments like k, thanx.

i no how you feel too, being mix raced myself… im involved with the music business to, i always used to get comments saying ‘go back to your own country’ and ‘your not welcome here’…just utter jeliousy as we are lucky to be who we are!
im also off to stage school next year…so hopefully its not too racially tense!

Hey leona. As everyone else here says, it is pure jealousy. They all see how incredibly talented you are, yet how incredibly down to earth and real you are, so they feel you’re a threat & therefore try and use anything to tear you down and make you feel awful. I’m glad it didn’t make you crash and burn.
So glad you made it out on the other side. You’re amazing, extremely talented, beautiful. If you were slightly overweight they would’ve used that against you. It’s just blatant immaturity and fuelled by their own pitiful insecurities.
Keep doing you’re thing. You’re absolutely fantastic. I LOVE ‘Better in time’.

As an fully african american girl I think it does not matter whether your half black or half white the only thing that does matter is your attitude towards life and how you live it.Also your songs are wonderful!!
