Mariah Carey has spoken out about all the recent comparisons to Leona Lewis. Carey insists she “didn’t really hear any similarity” between Leona’s music and her own, and claims there will never be a “new” Mariah. She said: “Honestly, there has been so many, ‘This is the new her,’ and I’m like, ‘OK, show me the new her. Can she come and work for me and be my double?’ ” “And I’m not particular talking about this girl Leona, because I only heard her once and I didn’t really hear a true similarity, particularly in the style of music.

it is silly to compare leona to any other singer as she is unique in the fact she has a great voice and a great personality .i cant stand mariah carey and have never rated her as something special .she is so up her own backside its a wonder she can walk and fit her huge head through a door

I don’t think that when people cite comparisons, they’re not speaking of identical sound. I know that when I site comparisons between Leona and Mariah, it’s just on the basis that they both have amazing vocal capabilities. However, it doesn’t take a trained ear to come to the conclusion that Leona’s voice has been influenced by some of music’s greatest -Mariah, Whitney, Celine, etc. But I do think that Mariah should be more flattered and modest when she’s told of these sort of things. Cockiness is not attractive.

i saw the interview where mariah says “they’re not really singers and writers” she wasn’t being specific and it was not aimed at leona. i myself love the two of them for their incredible voices. leona is only beginning but you can only acknowledge mariah for staying relevant after 18 years!! anyway, fans always need to insult other artists to defend their favorite one. i think this is lame and childish.

MC you failed to understand that when people compare you to Leona they are simply saying that there’s a new girl on the block who can sing beautifully and with great singing ability. It doesn’t mean that she looks, sounds or even behaves like you – stupid! I don’t know why anyone in their right mind would compare a true musical talent to you – there’s no comparison! Personally, when I first hear you warbling through Endless Love with Luther Vandross in the early 90s, destroying what is a beautiful song (Listen to Diana Ross and Lionel Richie), I immediately lost respect for you as a singer and without regret. I have never rated you as a good singer and am proud to say that I have never bought one of your cheesy songs and promise never to buy it. You claim to be a song writer. Well, I think it is time you had someone with song writing talent to write a good song for you. Obviously you are not a song writer. You are nothing but hype!

Are these her real words, or have they been paraphrased to achieve a different scathing effect… From the interview video I saw about her comment on Leona Lewis, it did not show off as much arrogance as this article does… Maybe it’s another hyped-up entry? Let’s not put Mariah down just to play Leona up, it’s really quite unethical, I feel

It is big mistake that people compare them. When i heard about Leona i didn not think about anyone. I just knew that is a new singer whose name is Leona… that’s all! And she has magnificant sound.I love Leona music. If you hear both of them you will find difference. At right moment i listen Leona more than any singer.Lyrics so efficient. I get crazy when i listen her!

leona is amazing! and she has great vocal capabilities! i love them both but for some of you to say mariah is nothing special c’mon listen to hear vocally and lyrically…. she is amazing… shes an angel a special gift to this world and music industry and someone above commented on her not being a “writer” i mean are you out of ur mind… shes writting all 18 of her #1s and some of her bestest songs vocally and lyrically arent even singles… mariah is something special and is a living legend… no one can touch her! NO ONE!!! leona comes close though.. she is great vocally but she hasnt proven to us what mariah has already!

Mariah just thinks to much of herself yeah she can sing big deal so can other artists just coz she can belt out and scream doesnt mean shes anything special..
I think too much praise has gone to her head, she is just another one of these dumb american artists who think they are better than everybody else…

Mariah is Mariah.
Leona is Leona. That’s it.
And to be honest, from my own personal view Leona can never be Mariah or the other way round - it’s just that people compare her to these great singers because of her singing ability that was on the same ‘level’ as MC, WHitney or Celine Dion.
Now Now, don’t be hatin. I love Leona to bits but I think what Mariah has said was quite right, Leona has her own style and Mariah has hers too.

If Mariah said that then I am sorry for her but I have to hear her saying that to believe it, really. The comparison is about the phenomenon Mariah was, powerful voice which she does not have anymore sadly and Leona who is becoming fast a new phenomenon similar to the one in the 90’s, Mariah that is. That is all and still, why compare, everyone is unique, why generate hate for an artist comparing him/her with X artist? I am a Mariah fan, since 1995 I saw a slight change in her voice, when Glitter came her voice changed drastically, the fact is she cannot sing like she sung in the 90s. No one wants to be replaced, Mariah will never be replaced, when a great singer like Leona shows up, a NEW spot is set up for her in the music history, she is not taking anyone else’s spot.
Anyways Whitney always had a huge voice, far better and wider than Mariah’s and she, Whitney had only nice things to say about Leona, I don’t understand why Mariah feels like Leona is stealing her toys :) I always loved M but this is what I do not like about her, that she is a snob. Which Leona and others are not, M thinks she is this goddess because of her voice, well, there are other artist with better voice speaking technically and they don’t make such fuss. It’s pity to see a great singer like Mariah shooting rickets like a teenager, really, that is IF she said this.

Mariah is a great singer & her longevity is impressive, however I feel she can be quite cocky. And she seem to love herself too much! A little humility wouldn’t hurt, no matter how successful you are!!!

Hmmm…not sure if I thought Mariah would say that, but I love her voice, however I’m like so in love with Leona’s voice and personality. She’s wonderful. But singers are singers. Each have their own individual style, range, and so on.

Well In A Way I Do Kinda Agree With Mariah. Leona’s Fantastic But She’s Always Compare To Whitney And Mariah- She’s A Singer In Her Own Class. She Doesn’t Have The Smoothness That Whitney Has, Nor Does She Have The Vocal Range That Mariah Has. But Leona Is Still Amazing. And As For The Comment That Mariah Lip Syncs, I Can Guarantee You That There Is Not A Single Singer In The World That Sings Live Every Time They Do A Performance.

Well my outlook is the people who trash Mariah are jealous of how beautiful and great she is as a singer! Leona is great also. Why trash Mariah because a new singer has come out???? Mariah has been around for a very long time with number ones forever!! If you want to compare wait and see what happens with Leona in a few years!!!

I like Mariah but she needs to start singing live to gain her vocal credibility back. Leona never fails to deliver when she performs live and she hits those high notes beautifully! But above all, Leona has and shows so much humility and unawareness of her talent. I’m not sure I could say the same for Miss Carey who also needs to start writing better material instead of coming up with recycled ‘touch my body’ stuff just to have longetivity and attention from fans.

Ive seen the interview and Mariah was not being arrogant. It seems it has been published that way on this website to make her look bad and put Leona on more of a pedestal. At the end of the day, Leona sounds nothing like Mariah. Mariah is a legend and Im sure she had heard people sound like her more than once and I beleive she has earned the right to say what she said. As for someone saying Mariah is hype, I dont think having 18#1’s is hype! More like Leona is all hype. Leona is a great singer but way too hyped up, so we’ll see if she has the same longetivity as Mariah aswell as whether she keeps her ’sweet’ personality if she stays around just as long. Mariah had the same personality in the beginning but the longer you are in the business, the more ou will change its just life and sometimes people like Mariah earn that diva status. Mariah has been writing great songs and performing great songs for years and for people to slate her and claim Leona is better than her really annoys me. When Leona has been in the industry as long as Mariah has, then ya’ll can talk!

Whatever it is, I don’t care. I just love the way Mariah is and how Leona is. They’re both good in what they’re doing and I think that comparing these two talented people is nothing but a waste of time.
They have their own horizon and I wish that the media would just not get into that place. They’re not harassing the media and so, they should leave them alone.
That’s what’s wrong with some people today. They focus on nonsense and forget about the more important stuff like the SportRelief that Leona’s in now.
