X Factor winner, and Simon Cowel’s latest prodigy, Leona Lewis, has topped the charts with a cover of Kelly Clarkson’s “A Moment Like This” is hoping to kick off her American career by making a guest appearance / performance on American Idol when the show starts next week with a special two part premiere.

This is a great opportunity for Leona, we are sure she will do a great job! Lets hope the American’s love her as much as we do.

Update April 10 2008: Over a whole year later, it has been confirmed that Leona will perform on American Idol!

Leona is still going strong at the top of the charts. Leona has been at the number one position for three weeks and does not seem to be budging even after the new chart rules. Leona held of the likes of U2, Pink Floyd and the return of Take That.
Hopefully Leona can hold the top spot for more weeks to come!

Leona Lewis has been enjoying some relaxation time with her parents Joe and Marie after Simon Cowell treated them all to an all expenses paid trip to Dubai with a private villa after her amazing success with her first single, A Moment Like This.

Leona said: “I’m finally getting to relax with my family after such an intense but happy experience,” Leona explained. “Thank you, Simon. But I can’t wait to get into the studio to start writing and recording my album.”

Leona has broken yet another world record this week, in becoming the worlds fastest selling female artist of all time! Leona’s single, A Moment Like This when straight to number one, and has sold a staggering 571,253 copies in just it’s first week!
Leona broke Britney Spears’ previous 1999 record of 464,000 copies for Hit Me Baby One More Time single.

Leona’s first single also broke the wordrecord for becoming the worlds fastest selling download

Leona’s spokeswoman said: “It’s great news for Leona, and the song looks solid at number one for a second week.”

It’s All For You EP is Leona’s unofficial second single. Released as a download only single from Schizofrenik Records label.
The EP single contains four songs written by Leona, and recorded before her time on X Factor.

Leona is proud to a a hackney girl, leona has spoken to the Hackney Gazette about hackney and X Factor, this is what they say.

Stamford Hill’s Leona Lewis said she was “proud to be a Hackney girl” the week she became a superstar by winning The X Factor final.

The stunning 21-year-old star clinched a sensational victory over student Ray Quinn in the final of the TV talent show on Saturday night.

She pledged not to forget the millions of fans who tuned into watch her become crowned the first female X Factor winner.

She told the Gazette: “Thanks so much to my fans from Hackney. I am really proud to be a Hackney girl and appreciate all the support you have given me.”

The former Pizza Hut waitress is set to become a huge star after beating 100,000 hopefuls to land a £1million record deal.

She is now hot favourite to clinch the Christmas number one spot with the cover of the ballad, A Moment Like This, which was previoulsy a hit in the US for the first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson.

More than 50,000 people had downloaded the track within 30 minutes of its release on the web on Saturday night.

Music mogul Simon Cowell believes Leona can go on to be a global superstar to rival Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.

Born in Islington, Leona grew up with dad, Joe, 46, a youth offending officer and mum, Marie, 42, a social worker.

Leona is well on her way to selling a Million singles for “A Moment Like This“, and taking the Christmas Number One spot this Christmas weekend.

She has been tipped to sell this staggering number of singles during the run up to Christmas making it the fastest selling download of all time!

A source said: “With the added bonus of downloads and all the publicity it’s very likely she will reach the million mark, as well as making it the Christmas Number One.”

Leona has reportedly complained about the hectic workload she has right now, just days after hitting the lime light on the run up to Christmas. She is tired and wants to spend time with her family around Christmas time.

Whitney Houston has apparently called up an astonished Leona to congratulate her and say how much she loves her debut single “A Moment Like This” and to wish her the best of luck.

Also Kelly Clarkson, who won the US contest in 2002 called Leona to say how much she loves her version of the song.
