Leona seems to be the girl with the golden voice, as Bond makers have picked her to sing the 007 theme tune, according to reports from The News of the World.

Originally, the makers wanted Amy Winehouse, but following her string of highly controversial booze and drugs episodes, have decided against using her.

Instead, X Factor winner Leona Lewis has been picked, the girl who has been out of the limelight for almost a year, but only to return in the most emphatic of ways with her brand new single ‘Bleeding Love’, tipped to be a smash hit in the US and her beloved Britain.

A pal said: “Leona’s beaming from ear to ear at being asked to be part of such a huge movie.

“She thinks it’s a real honour to follow in the footsteps of some of the world’s biggest female names.”

Leona is desperate to meet her idol Celine Dion - and is confident it will be the highlight of her career. Leona is set to appear alongside Dion at the recording of ITV’s television singing special Saturday Night Divas. She says, “Celine is someone I aspire to be like in every way. “Gosh - I can’t wait. I’m in the middle of picking out dresses at the moment. Celine is definitely one of my heroes. She is amazing.”

Simon Cowell says he could turn Leona Lewis bad

Simon Cowell believes he’s capable of turning last year’s X Factor winner, Leona Lewis “bad”.

Cowell insists that the 22-year-old actress really is as squeaky-clean as her reputation suggests - but joked he could give her some tips if she ever wanted to go over to the dark side, he said: “She really is that sweet. Leona is too good to ever turn bad. She should hang out with me more!”

Cowell also compared Leona to Whitney Houston, he said: “Leona is definitely as good as Whitney Houston is now. Leona was amazing on ‘X Factor’, but I was worried her voice wouldn’t come over as well on a record. But she sounds even better on her new album.”

Leona’s new single ‘Bleeding Love’ has become the fastest selling record in the UK this year.
The single, which was released this Monday, is outselling Take That’s ‘Rule The World’ by two-to-one and selling more copies than the entire top 10 combined.

Simon Cowell has compared British X Factor Winner, Leona Lewis to the likes of Whitney Houston, and branded her one of the most important artists of our generation.

Lewis, who is signed to both Cowell’s Syco label on Sony BMG , won the 2006 series of the British talent show, after impressing fans and judges with her powerful voice. Cowell, 48, said that he knew Lewis was going to be a star before the competition was over - thanks to a tip off by Clive Davis.

Cowell is quoted as saying” “In all The X Factors of the past, I’ve never had a phone call from Clive Davis prior to the show finishing and saying, ‘I will sign this girl whatever happens.’ “For Sony Bmg, she is one of the most important artists in the world. She has a proper commitment from Clive Davis. We treat her exactly as we would have treated Whitney Houston when she first started recording”.

But Cowell insisted that comparisons to Houston end there: “The difference is, Leona has her feet on the ground. She hasn’t changed. She is very polite and respectful”.

Leona Lewis fears she may do better her former idols Take That and the Backstreet Boys when she goes head to head with both groups in the U.K. charts this week. Leona releases her new single Bleeding Love at the same time as Take That’s ‘Rule The World’, and will also face competition from the Backstreet Boys who return with Inconsolable.

But The 22-year-old star admits she will feel guilty if she reaches the top of the chart ahead of two bands she followed when she was younger. She says, “I can’t believe we are going head to head in the charts. I’m excited and nervous but I do hope I win. “I grew up with Take That on everything I owned - pencil cases, clothes. I was an even bigger Backstreet Boys fan - it’s crazy!”
