Leona may not be able to afford buying her own house just yet, but Simon Cowell has reportedly bought one for her in Los Angeles, and it cost him a whopping $5 million (£2.5 million).
Cowell and other people at Leona’s label apparently think it would be good for her to have a home in L.A. now that she’s hit #1 in America and will be promoting a lot there.
A source told a newspaper: “Even though Simon is very rich, he’s careful with money and doesn’t like to waste it [but he] thinks she is absolutely amazing so he wanted to treat her.”
“He’s so pleased with how hard she works and what a massive success she’s become.”
Leona was shocked when she heard she’d reached number one in America.
Speaking from sunny Los Angeles, Leona told GMTV: “It’s unbelievable, I’m just so excited and happy – it’s unbelievable.”
Leona revealed how she found out she was #1: “I was sleeping and someone texted me. I then phoned my whole family and they were all going crazy so it was really sweet. My mum was crying – it was so cute.”
Leona’s success is reportedly risking her long-term career because it’s stressing her out so much.
Leona recently topped the US charts but a source at her record label Song BMG told the Daily Mail recently that the stress of doing so well is causing her to repeatedly come down with tonsillitis.
The source explained: “The problem is that the whole thing is a vicious circle.”
“Leona gets stressed and nervous and that’s when her voice gives out. The fact that there is so much riding on the next few weeks only adds to her anxiety.”
Leona Lewis has warbled her way to the world’s biggest solo music contract.
Rival US record bosses are ready to break the bank for her after she became the first Brit female to hit No.1 there for 21 years.
Sources say she will be rewarded with a mind-blowing album and live performance deal worth £50million. And Leona could get her hands on the gift of her dreams as early as Thursday, when she turns 23.
Senior label executives would like to present it to her officially at a glittering birthday party in New York.
A friend of the family gasped yesterday: “Everything’s happening so fast. She’s in a whirl.”
Leonastruck gold with Bleeding Love, her debut single over the pond. It has now topped the charts in more than 20 countries.
Leona posted a new blog on her official site where she talks about reaching the #1 spot on the American Billboard chart:
Hi everyone
Well I really don’t know what to say, I’m so overwhelmed right now!
I’m getting to share my music with people around the world and its beyond my wildest dreams. From the bottom of my heart thank u all so much, its because of you that I am able to do this.
I called my family to share the news and my mum started crying it was so sweet. They’re coming to visit me in new york and were all going to celebrate because its also my birthday when I’m there!
I’m still in LA at the moment so I’m going to make sure I find time to celebrate here too !!
Once again I can’t thank everyone enough for this incredible support !!
Leona’s amazing number 1 spot on the American charts has surprised even mentor Simon Cowell, who admits he planned the 2006 X-Factor champ would rule the pop world, but didn’t expect it to happen so quickly.
“To say this happened quickly is the understatement of the year,” he said.
“We were getting calls saying: ‘This record is on fire,’ and: ‘It’s going to chart high.”
Cowell, 46, added: “Then we got one saying: ‘It’s gone in at No 1.’ Nobody expected that.
“The amazing thing is I would say that 98% of people in America still don’t know who Leona Lewis is!”
Although Leona has now topped the charts across the world, the 22-year-old wasn’t able to buy a house that she really liked because the property is too expensive.
A pal revealed how she recently put in a £500,000 offer for a three-bedroom place in London’s East End. But when the seller found out it was from Leona, he upped the price by another £100,000.
The friend said: “She had her heart set on it. But the new price-tag was just too much and she had to back out.”
A huge congratulations are in order for Leona!, she truly has achieved her dream of breaking America, by topping the US singles chart with Bleeding Love!
Leona released bleeding love in the US six weeks ago and with the promotional help of shows such as Oprah and The Tonight Show have helped her to the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and pushing Usher and Young Jeezy to second place.
Leona has become the fist British woman to reach the number one spot of the US charts for more than 20 years.
Leona said it was her “dream” to break America, and says “I’m so excited to be able to spend some time in the US and showcase my music to everyone here,” “Its been a dream of mine since I was a little girl and I can’t wait.”
‘Bleeding Love’ has already reached number one in more than 25 countries worldwide, including France, , Germany, Ireland, Australia and the UK.
Simon has lived up to his words when he said “We’ll do everything in our power to make her an international star.”
Many congratulations to the very talented Leona Lewis! We knew it was only a matter of time.
