Leona Lewis found Justin Timberlake’s good looks a big distraction when the pair made sweet music together.
Leona told me: “He is so cool, such a nice guy, and I think we have a lot in common as we are both quite focused people. He is a beautiful boy and I was a bit worried about whether it would cloud my judgment over whether the song was good or not. But as soon as I met him that was over.”
As well as single Don’t Let Me Down, the duo’s collaboration spawned another song, one they are currently fighting over.
The 24-year-old Hackney lass revealed: “We only had a few days together but we wrote another song that didn’t get finished.
“Justin can’t have it for his next album, though, because I’m singing on it.
“He was like: ‘If you don’t take it I’m having it for my album.’ And I was like: ‘No you’re not, it’s mine.’”
Echo is a huge musical leap for Leona, who believes she has truly grown as an artist.
She explained: “I needed to step it up a level with this album.
“I wanted it to represent where I am now. I also want it to still represent me in 20 years’ time when people are hopefully still listening to the album.
“I’m inspired by old stuff like Annie Lennox, so I was after an organic sound with strings and guitars to test myself.
“I wrote on most of the songs so it really feels like me. I’m really proud of it.”
One of the tracks that is sure to surprise fans is the upbeat Out Of My Head.
“It’s always good to do something that people aren’t expecting,” she said. “I wanted to do something different and have a proper dance track on there.
“I got to work with Max Martin on it, who is one of the best. I think it is really anthemic and completely different to anything I’ve done before.”
Leona will perform tonight at the Children In Need gig organised by Gary Barlow, 38, at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
She said: “It’s an amazing event and I love Gary to bits. He is such a sweet guy.
“It should be interesting with Robbie joining Take That on stage. It’s hugely anticipated.
“I’m going to stick around for that performance.”
